Runway Skeletons

We are just a few weeks away from London Fashion Week and one thing that has sparked the headlines is the size-zero debate. This issue became front-page news in September when model Luisel Ramos collapsed while on a runway during Uruguayʼs Fashion Week ; she later died from heart failure.

It was not until now that the problem has re-emerged after top model Charlotte Carter, who has graced the runway for major fashion designers, was banned from working London Fashion Week. It was only after this incident that the Italian government and leading couture houses joined forces to follow the example, banning ultra-skinny models from Milan Fashion Week. The fashion bosses in Paris dismissed the ban, but the British Fashion Council only urged designers to choose healthier models.

This has been an ongoing issue since then, and weʼve seen an increasing number of starlets and fashion models both in magazines and tabloids looking excruciatingly thin. There has always been an increasing danger about this epidemic to the young women who aspire to be just like what they see in magazines.
Of course, by addressing this issue, we can change it. It starts with encouraging these young women to read the magazines with intelligence in mind as not to be seduced by the images they see.
