An Evening in SoHo: Sofia Coppola Talks Somewhere and Anna Sui’s Book Signing

Fashion writer Elizabeth Jaime may have been cold but that didn’t stop her from " scurrying over to the Apple Store and to Anna Sui’s boutique for two really exciting events celebrating two of fashion’s finest.

The first stop? Well, it's actually the only stop were concerning ourselves with here. The Apple Store welcomed Sofia Coppola. She was ther to speak about her latest film "Somewhere", which we've been anticipating since the beginning of this past summer. This event was a part of Apple’s Meet The Filmmaker series.

Elizabeth shared, "After about an hour of camping out in my chair so that no one else snagged it, Sofia finally walked in wearing a heather gray cashmere sweater scrunched up to her elbows, a pair of fitted blue jeans, and what looked like a pair of Chloe wedges. Her hair was perfectly tousled and the only jewelry she had on was a diamond tennis bracelet and a slim black leather watch.

Sofia spoke about the challenges she faced, the similarities and differences between all of her films, and what inspired her to do Somewhere. “All my previous films had been from a girl’s perspective, so I really wanted to do a film from a man’s point of view.” she said.

The result is the story of an actor (Stephen Dorff) who re-evaluates his life after his eleven-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) surfaces. Filmed at the iconic Chateau Marmont in LA, Somewhere is bound to beautiful, however, Sofia explained that Marie Antoinette was so over-the-top that she really felt like doing a more subtle movie."

First came, "Marie Antoinette" than comes "Somewhere". Now, although Antoinette will forever remain a classic in our Favorite Films Archive, were hoping the film "Somewhere", will follow in the foot steps.
